Cheryl Wilhelmsen is a Clinical Assistant Professor for the Industrial Technology and the Technology Management Programs in the Engineering College for the University of Idaho at the Idaho Falls Center Campus. She has worked part time for the University System (APUS)/American Military University (AMU) for ten years and then as an assistant professor for two and a half years. Wilhelmsen worked as a consultant for NASA Ames in aviation risk and maintenance for over 15 years. Wilhelmsen worked as a senior ergonomics analyst for General Dynamics, San Diego, CA. for three years. Wilhelmsen worked nineteen years for the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL) in various capacities. Wilhelmsen was a project manager for the Air Force (ASOC) project for two years. She has thirty-five years of professional experience in both research and application work in the areas of training, aviation safety, ergonomics, human factors, systems engineering, industrial engineering, safety and health, risk assessment, and computer software development and usage. She has been involved in Probabilistic Risk Assessment and Human Reliability Assessment for both the Idaho National Lab and NASA. She has consulted with DoD and DOE in conducting hundreds of ergonomic assessments and training in the areas of safety, risk, and ergonomics. She co-authored and published a book, Risk Assessment-Tools, Techniques, and Their Applications by Lee T. Ostrom and Cheryl A. Wilhelmsen publisher John Wiley, 2012 with the 2nd edition printed in 2019. She also co-authored and published a book, Occupational Ergonomics: A Practical Approach by Theresa Stack, Lee T. Ostrom, and Cheryl A. Wilhelmsen, publisher John Wiley (2016), with the 2nd edition in progress for 2021.
- Past research projects include work with NASA on Aviation Maintenance Inspection
