Vandal Outstanding Educator Award

The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences honors educators with the Vandal Outstanding Educator Award

Teachers shape the future by educating and empowering individuals. They profoundly impact students' academic, social, and emotional development and contribute to student's overall progress and well-being. The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences (EHHS) is excited to honor all educators on October 19, 2024, during the Idaho Vandal Football game.

2024 recipients of the prestigious "Vandal Outstanding Educator" award:

Colin Briggs

Colin Briggs, a dedicated physical education teacher, has made an extraordinary impact on both the Moscow School District and the University of Idaho. Known for his innovative programs like Parent to PE Week and his guidance of practicum students, Mr. Briggs fosters a passion for teaching and health among his students. In addition to coordinating city-wide events like the annual swim unit and track meets, he mentors future educators at U of I and leads programs such as the GQ Club for boys at Lena Elementary. Twice nominated for SHAPE Idaho Teacher of the Year, Mr. Briggs continues to shape the future of physical education.

Antonio Carrico

Antonio Carrico, a business educator and DECA advisor at Coeur d'Alene High School, has inspired countless students to pursue careers in business and marketing. His passion for teaching personal finance and fostering creativity has made a lasting impact, both in the classroom and throughout the community. Beyond teaching, Mr. Carrico is involved in extracurriculars, from coaching football to organizing school-wide events like the blood drive. His influence extends beyond academics, shaping students into engaged and productive community members.

Melody McLeod

Melody McLeod a choir teacher in Post Falls, has profoundly impacted her students by creating a welcoming and supportive environment. From middle school choir to elite high school ensembles, her guidance helped students express themselves through music. McLeod’s lasting influence extends beyond the classroom, inspiring one student to pursue a teaching degree and chase their dreams. Her dedication to both music and her students has made her a mentor, teacher, and lifelong friend.

Mike Uhling

Mike Uhling of Lewiston has spent 30 years as a passionate educator, leaving a lasting impact on every student who passes through his classroom. Known for his infectious school spirit and personal connection with students—many of whom still remember the nicknames he gave them—Mr. Uhling has inspired numerous students to pursue teaching careers. His dedication extends beyond the classroom, securing grants to enhance technology resources for his school. Mr. Uhling's commitment to education and his students deserves recognition.

Honoré Storms

Honoré Storms, a dedicated US history teacher in Idaho Falls, has inspired students through her dynamic teaching methods and passion for learning. From interactive projects, like interviewing Vietnam War veterans for the Library of Congress, to engaging class discussions and guest lectures, Storms brought history to life. Her deep connection to her alma mater encouraged students to join the Vandal family. Her dedication to education has left a lasting impact on her students and their approach to learning.

Jennifer Petersen

Jennifer Petersen of Nampa Jennifer Petersen, an ELS teacher at Willow Creek Elementary in Nampa, ID, stands out for her dedication and compassion in the educational community. Known for her commitment to her students, Petersen goes beyond the classroom, organizing Saturday school events and tailoring lesson plans to meet diverse needs. Her nurturing approach fosters a welcoming environment, encouraging students to feel comfortable and engaged. As a mentor, she inspires those around her to pursue kindness and service in their own lives.
