Kami Sledge, 2019-20
Kami Sledge is from Lewiston, Idaho studying Sociology with a Criminology Emphasis. She started interning at Career Services in the fall of 2018, her first semester at the University of Idaho. Since day one in the office, she has been professional, a quick learner, and committed to the office’s mission of creating career development and networking opportunities for Vandals.
A consistent quality throughout Kami’s time in the office is her high level of service. She honed her skills through high school jobs in retail and catering in which she learned how to communicate with a variety of customers and patrons.
Kami is a savvy troubleshooter, handling unexpected event issues calmly and with grace. During one Career Fair, our exit survey tablets were not syncing with the venue’s internet. Kami explored multiple solutions while simultaneously holding students’ attention to wait around and take the survey. For two of our fairs, she successfully organized our 30-member team into a complicated eight-hour staffing schedule with dozens of duties. In 2019, Kami single-handedly planned Photos with Santa, our annual marketing event. While her supervisor momentarily panicked when the Santa actor cancelled the morning of the event due to an emergency, Kami remained cool and identified a replacement actor within 15 minutes.
For two semesters, Kami led in outreach numbers for our “Get the Word Out” marketing campaign for our Career Fairs. Although the campaign is changing to a team-based model and multiple Career Services events will be marketed, Kami’s team will undoubtedly lead the pack with outreach numbers and touchpoints.
Kami returns in the fall of 2020 as an Employer Relations Lead Intern. In this role, she will serve as a mentor for other interns as well as lead team meetings and training sessions. Outside of her internship, Kami continues serving as Vice President of Philanthropy for Alpha Gamma Delta sorority, identifying and planning volunteer service opportunities for chapter members as well as organizing her chapter’s annual fundraising event, Mr. Idaho—hopefully the coronavirus pandemic will not cancel the 2021 event as it did the year before.
