North Idaho AHEC - RUOP
The North Idaho Area Health Education Center (AHEC) was founded in 2018 to enhance access to quality health care, particularly primary and preventative care. AHEC leverages strategic partnerships with academic programs, communities and professional organizations to support and improve the supply and distribution of healthcare professionals.
As part of AHEC, the Rural Underserved Opportunities Program (RUOP) is a four-week immersion experience for students between their first and second year of medical school. Students are placed in rural or urban-underserved communities throughout Idaho, where they work alongside a physician preceptor to develop their understanding of primary care and how community health systems function.
