Forest Management
The U of I Experimental Forest (UIEF) is a working forest, actively managed by CNR students to provide long-term supply of local wood, clean water, recreational opportunities and wildlife habitat, along with serving our core research, teaching and demonstration mission and mitigating fire hazard. We practice conventional and experimental silviculture and fuels management in order to maximize research, teaching, and demonstration opportunities that benefit students, faculty, and stakeholders. Timber harvesting and commercial thinning treatments are carried out by our Student Logging Crew using cutting-edge mechanized equipment.
