ACL2 Insectary Facility
The Institute for Health in the Human Ecosystem supports a state-of-the-art Arthropod Containment Level 2 (ACL2) insectary facility at the University of Idaho. The ACL2 insectary includes eight rooms, three with temperature-, light- and humidity-controlled walk-in environmental chambers that can be adjusted to maintain precise conditions for a variety of arthropod species. Two procedure rooms are outfitted with reach-in incubators and bench space for manipulating infected arthropod vectors. A large central hallway in the facility includes additional workspace and deep sinks for research-associated activities. A separate room inside the facility provides U of I approved housing for study animals for pathogen transmission and for use in arthropod maintenance; a separate procedure room with a biosafety cabinet is also available for associated tasks.
We welcome collaborative projects with investigators needing these spaces for their research. Please email insectary facility coordinator Shirley Luckhart for more information.
