U of I Computer Science Postdoctoral Researcher Receives Two Academic Grants
March 28, 2024
Wenjia Li, Ph.D., a postdoctoral researcher of Professor Marshall Ma’s group at University of Idaho, has recently been recognized with two notable fellowships, underscoring her innovative contributions to geoinformatics and data science research.
First, Li has been awarded a research grant and travel support totaling $4,000 from the FAIR in ML, AI-readiness, and Reproducibility (FARR) Research Coordination Network. This grant supports research that adheres to the FAIR principles — ensuring data and methodologies in machine learning and AI are findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable. The FARR Research Coordination Network is led by the San Diego Supercomputer Center and is dedicated to promoting open data and open science standards across various scientific disciplines. This grant recognizes Li's efforts to advance geoscience research through enhanced data practices and supports her to present the output in a future workshop.
Second, Li has been selected to participate in the PyRATES workshop, a cutting-edge data science forum sponsored by the NSF (National Science Foundation). This workshop, aimed at fostering advancements in Python Applications and Tools for Earth Science, brings together leading minds to share knowledge and drive innovation. Hosted by the University of Southern California, the PyRATES workshop is renowned for its emphasis on practical, open-source tools that enhance data intensive research in Earth sciences. Li's inclusion in the workshop highlights her creative work and promises to further her impact in the field. She has been granted $2,000 in travel support to attend this event.
