This is Your Gateway to Success
The Vandal Gateway Program (VGP) is a first-year success program at University of Idaho. Students take several general education courses together (including English 101, 102, and Communications 101), receive additional advising contact, and have expanded access to academic support. Students in this cohort-based program benefit from frequent interactions with dedicated faculty and staff as they help foster development of strong academic success habits. As students graduate from the program during their second semester, they decide on a major and are transitioned to an advisor within their chosen field.
“VGP has the best faculty and staff working for us. They care about the [Gateway] students and will do whatever they can to help you. This program isn’t just about grades; it’s about being a better person and working hard in every aspect of life — and Gateway supports you every step of the way.”
— Ryan P., ’24
