About
The College of Agricultural and Life Sciences advances the health and welfare of people, animals and the environment through research and education in agriculture, community, human and rural development, natural resources, nutrition and life sciences.
The college leads research and Extension efforts related to various issues and our faculty and students are finding solutions to the world’s most critical challenges in order to create and sustain an abundant food and energy supply, a healthy environment and successful families and communities.
Agriculture is one of the main industries in the state of Idaho, with over $20 billion in total sales, accounting for 17% of Idaho’s total economic output. U of I supports this key industry through a variety of activities.
CALS offers 43 undergraduate and graduate degree programs on a broad range of topics, from animal science to child development. Our graduates are highly sought after upon graduation with 92% having a job secured within six months.
Our seven academic units are leading efforts in dairy production and sustainability; efficient beef systems; potato production, processing and marketing; cereal production, products and marketing; improving soil health; transformative youth development; and developing healthy individuals and communities.
Our Extension network brings the research and knowledge of the university to local Idaho communities, with a focus on positive youth development, community development, food production systems, forestry and natural resources, health and wellness, horticulture and small farms, and water.
CALS is committed to our land-grant roots and takes pride in leading U of I’s mission to serve the public through education, research and Extension.
