Raffaella Sini has been teaching at the Landscape Architecture Program of the University of Idaho since 2016. She has a multidisciplinary background in landscape architecture, architecture, landscape planning and public art.
Raffaella has her advanced degrees in landscape architecture and architecture from the University of Rome La Sapienza and has taught at several universities, including the National University of Singapore, where she was an assistant Professor. Raffaella’s research, practice and teaching explore landscapes as a medium of expression; she advocates the landscape architect’s role in discovering, deciphering, and communicating landscape’s cultural, social and environmental values to and with communities. Her work takes a humanities and design-centered perspective, with a focus on cultural landscapes.
Raffaella’s design-based research is explicated through the practice of temporary and experimental installations realized with the design collective LAND-I archicolture (2000—ongoing) co-founded with Roberto Capecci and Marco Antonini, and with students and various communities in Europe, Asia and the United States. Service learning projects and the use of short-term interventions, for which she has managed to obtain funding from governments and private foundations, are instrumental in the practice and in pedagogy in exploring process design methodologies that have been applied in diverse contexts.
The focus on the exhibition of temporary narrative landscape architecture works has been documented in several journals and the international press, as has her scholarship focused on understanding and intervening on cultural landscapes.
