Five Reasons to Join a Club or Organization
At U of I, we have tons of clubs and organizations here on campus. If you’re on the fence about whether you want to get involved, here are some reasons to join!
1. Insta-friends
Making new friends can be tough, but in a club, you already have at least one thing in common! Working alongside people for a common goal or purpose forms bonds that can last a lifetime.
2. Find your people
Many clubs are formed around cultural, religious or lifestyle communities. Joining a club is a great way to connect with others who share things that are important to you.
3. Boost your goals
Joining a club in your major or your career interest expands your opportunities outside of schoolwork and helps you network with people already out in the workforce. You'll level up your skills and knowledge in your chosen field.
4. Try something new
Is there a sport or activity that you’ve always wanted to try? There’s probably a club for that! Clubs give you a chance to learn from your peers. And if a club doesn’t exist yet, get a group together to form your own.
5. Change the world
Most clubs and organizations have a service component, and some are completely devoted to improving the community. Stand tall knowing you’re making your college, your community and the world a better place.
